How to Make Your Perfume Last All Day

Perfume bottles lined up on a softly lit table

A great perfume deserves to be smelled at the end of the day, not just at the door. Longevity depends as much on how you wear a scent as on what is in the bottle.

Moisturise first

Fragrance clings to hydrated skin. An unscented lotion on pulse points before you spray can add hours.

Spray, do not rub

Rubbing your wrists together heats the skin and crushes the delicate top notes. Spray and let it dry on its own.

  • Apply to pulse points: wrists, neck, behind the ears and inside the elbows.
  • Mist your hair brush — hair holds scent beautifully.
  • Layer a drop of attar underneath an eau de parfum.
  • Store bottles away from sunlight and the bathroom's heat.

Extraits and attars naturally last longest; an eau de toilette is made to be lighter and fresher.

The tip about moisturising first changed everything. My EDP now lasts through a full workday.

Never knew rubbing wrists breaks the top notes. Thank you!

Would love a follow-up on layering attars under sprays.
